The system of variable speed management designed by ACISA for the SCT, awarded in Europe

Monday, December 14, 2009

The system of variable speed management designed by ACISA for the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT) and implemented in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, has awarded with the first prize in the category of " Best Service of Traffic Management" in the Annual Forum of the project EasyWay, coordinated by the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport of the European Union and the most important to European level in relation with the intelligent systems of transport.

Specifically, the system of variable speed management was developed by Acisa for installation on highways C-31 and C-32/B-20 from Castelldefels to the squares of Barcelona Cerdà and Nus Llobregat. This is a pioneering system in Spain that provides dynamically and automatically, depending on the traffic flow conditions and air quality levels, different speed limits to minimize traffic congestion, improve safety road and reduce pollution levels, thus achieving balance of mobility and sustainability in the road network.

The project involved the installation of about 200 signs with LED aspects of speed (40 to 100 km / h) at 14 frames expanding existing signposting, several weather stations measuring ambient conditions of air along of the C-31 and C-32, and multiple changes in the speed trap existing, ITS equipment, along these pathways. This equipment, in operation since January this year, is monitored from a Control Center (CIVICAT) where software algorithms and traffic control management, developed exclusively for this project by ACISA, have been implemented.

In voting on the awards EasyWay were representatives of various European institutions, including the European Commission, the World Road Association (AIPCR/PIARC), the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR), the European Association of Highway Toll (ASECAP) and European technicians and experts from the EasyWay. The prize was awarded ex aequo with the Highways Agency in England, who presented a project on dynamic management of speed and use of the hard shoulder as additional lane.

ACISA takes years to innovate and implement their development projects that are making the company a benchmark in the field of technologies applied to road traffic management. This is the second prize at the European level that recognizes the systems developed and implemented by ACISA, since in 2008 the jury prize for best European tunnel, given by EuroTAP, made special mention to the security facilities implemented by ACISA at Pont Pla tunnel (Andorra ).

ACISA (Aeronaval de Construcciones e Instalaciones, S.A.) is part of Aldesa Group and has offices in Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville. The company is specialist in electrical engineering and telecommunications applied to managing traffic, airports, public lighting, ports, railway, control systems, security and leader in engineering and tunnel prepping and equipment. It has carried out projects for AENA, the DGT (Spanish Traffic Department), the SCT (Catalonian Traffic Department), RENFE, the Autonomous Government of Andalusia, CSIC, and the Town Council of Madrid, among others.
